Labour Rights

A large portion of the beneficiaries of BLAST is workers, more specifically the women workers and workers in the garment sector. The workers usually communicate with BLAST

·        Directly

·        Through Awareness training

·        Through Trade Union

·        Through other beneficiaries.

 

The activities of BLAST to establish the rights of the workers are:

·        Awareness Training

·        Mediation

·        Dealing cases free of cost

·        Public interest litigation.

 

BLAST usually runs its awareness activities:

 

1. Through the Head Office and Legal Aid Clinics under the main project.

2. Through Solidarity Centre (a US NGO) at Rampura, Mirpur and Savar (90 Participants in a week).

3. Through a project with the aid of Oxfam at Narayanganj and Mirpur Centers (80 Participants in a week).

4. In this way about 7000-8000 workers are made aware of their rights annually.

 

Achievement of BLAST in Labour Sector


 BLAST received about 3,934 complaints. Of those 517 were settled through mediation. Besides 697cases were filed.

 

At present, 1207 complaints are awaiting to be disposed off. Of those, 404 for mediation, 699 for cases and 104 for necessary documentation.


 Approximately, Tk. 50, 66,127 has been realised through mediation and cases in the last three years.
